I think that regulations are vital to make sure that broadcasting aimed for young children is appropriate for their ages, beneficial to their social and emotional development, and are not using the medium to manipulate or take advantage of them. I think that current regulations protect against inappropriate material, but don't do much to meet each child's needs. More representation of people of all different ages, races, cultures, religions, sexualities, and genders in broadcasting would help increase the quality and quantity of diverse broadcasting. Changing the kinds of advertising shown on childrens programming would also be beneficial, I believe. I would prefer advertising featuring more diverse products, ads from local stores and about local community events, local and national resources for children in need, and public safety messages aimed towards educating children. I think this would help children become more connected to their local community, see themselves in the people they see on the screen, and be introduced to diverse people. In my own family, I would want my child to be connected to their environment, be educated about different types of people, and be able to identify with the characters that are presented to them.
