An example of its appropriate use would be like cracking a joke to make your friend laugh after a rough day. Beyond that, good humor can take you places. People love funny people, and it could allow for some opportunities to arise for your benefit, like being offered the job after your interview because you were making your interviewer laugh. As silly as it sounds, it happens. The negative impact of humor comes when people don't share the same humor. For example, some people are able to joke about morbid or socially unacceptable things like race, tragic events, disease, etc. When two different people get together with a completely different sense of humor, they clash. It can become dangerous, tell the wrong joke to the wrong person and now you're getting a fist to the face. When considering virtue ethics, humor should always be used in good light to promote happiness and well-being. From the characteristics listed, I'd choose justice, honesty, and compassion to be the three characteristics I needed to see in my new hires. I chose justice first people I believe that every law enforcement officer should truly want the best outcome in each situation. That starts with treating individuals fairly and with respect, despite the issue or difference in morals. Honesty is also important. Each law enforcement officer should be held accountable when a certain situation arises. Accountability cannot be held if the truth isn't being told. Lastly, compassion. Compassion and empathy go hand in hand, and every law enforcement officer should have empathy. These officers are usually dealing with people who are going through some of the most emotional experiences of their life, and it's important to show respect and how you care for these individuals. The hardest part about living the rest of my life focusing on virtue would be continuing to do good for individuals who don't do good for themselves or others. Doing good for others is a big part of being a good person. Sometimes it's hard to do the right thing in a situation where the other person doesn't deserve it. It makes it hard to respect someone who shows no respect for anyone else.
