Cultural Myths & Legends

 Objective: Learn about various myths and legends and how they have appeared in multiple media since their creation. Analyze how writers and artists will transform those myths and legends to add meaning to their own work.

 Learning Goals: 
Students will analyze how an author draws on and transforms source material in a specific work (RL.3.9).
Students will analyze the representation of a subject or a key scene in two different artistic media, including what is emphasized or absent in each treatment (RL.3.7).

 Step One: Work independently to choose a myth or legend from the list below, and research information about it. Be sure to document your sources. 

 Step Two: Find one transformation of that myth or legend in popular sources. Some examples of where you may find it referenced would be in art, songs, poems, movies, short stories, novels, etc. (Hint: Google search the myth/legend you chose and find a picture/art painting, poem, movie, song lyrics, or a similar story. Find two different transformations.) USE THE DOCUMENT BELOW FOR YOUR NOTE TAKING. 

 Step Three: Create a presentation where you include: (Be creative/Include Pictures & color)
SLIDE 1: Name of your Myth & Legend
SLIDE 2: A summary of your ORIGINAL myth/legend
SLIDE 3: Transformation #1
If able, include the entire transformation with title and creator named.
If a longer work, just include the title, creator, and a brief synopsis.
SLIDE 4: Transformation - Analysis
What the creator drew on (similarities) including emphasized material
What the creator transformed (differences) about the myth/legend including absent information or details
SLIDE 5: Analysis Questions
Add the final two questions on Subject & Theme (Last two questions at the bottom of the document.
